Do You Write Enough Blog Posts?

I am currently in the middle of a marketing training program (all of you should be investing in continued education by the way:) which brought up a great point about blogging. It talked about how to make any sort of significant impact in your niche - you have to write a blog post every diggity day.

Take a look at the top blogs in your niche - do they write blogs posts everyday? But the part that resonated with me about it - was the fact that they explained how writing regularly trains the search engines to search and spider your content on a regular basis. Getting you quicker placement in the search engine rankings for your blog posts and keywords in those posts. Don’t you just love that? Does that mean that you have to write 500 word articles everyday? Uh, no. But it does mean that you need to be passionate about your topic and dedicated to the success of your blog to make it happen.

Remember you can blog about news in your niche, product reviews, things going on with you personally, updates on your current projects, etc. So I’m up for the challenge. Let’s see if we can all post a bit more frequently. While I am not fully committed to 7 days a week (hey, I have 3 kids, a dog, a fish, and a husband:), I will commit to 5. Okay, well I set the intention…how about you?

Get a 101 Link building Tips For Free

Although I slowed down in 2007, I have committed to ramping up my link building activities for 2008. I think that everyone should dedicate at least an hour to link building per week - because I saw tremendous growth in my business when I added new backlinks to my site.

Things have changed over the years. Of course now reciprocal links are a big no-no, and one-way backlinks are optimal. But that takes a little more work. Writing great content for other sites is the best way, and is what I teach my clients. But Brad Fallon has this cool new podcast report site called Freeline where he reports on a lot of free internet marketing and web 2.0 resources. One which he is featuring now is a 101 Link building Tips resource. Take a look - it’s quick bits of info. Not one of those godforsaken long 45 minute camtasia presentations:)!

Getting Started With Twitter

So a few of you wrote me and asked me the same thing I was wondering - how to you get started over at Twitter. How do you get the ball rollin’?

I have found that the easiest thing to do first is to of course create an account over at Twitter, and then start promoting your content using a cool tool called TwitterFeed. What it does is take the headlines and the link to your blog posts (via your RSS feed) and post them to your Twitter account.

The tool will check for new info from your feed as often as you specify, and you can add more than one feed - which is great. I added the one from this blog as well as the feed from my advice column - AskGirlShrink.

If people are interested in your headline, they will click on the tinyurl which the tool creates to your post and presto - you’ve got traffic! Easy Bake Buzz!

How To Use Twitter For Business

Filed under Email Marketing, Social Marketing

I have been recently writing about how I have made the decision to really narrow down and focus on a few select social media and marketing platforms in an effort to grow traffic, my list, and my brand.

So lately, I have been thinking about adding Twitter to my very short list because from what I’m gathering - it can provide a significant impact to your blog readership (if of course you write something worth reading:)

I think two bloggers who really explained the spirit of Twitter and how to use it effectively in growing your brand online are Darren from ProBlogger and Maki on Dosh Dosh. It’s not just about collecting all the “friends” you can get!

I opened a Twitter account a while ago - but didn’t really “get it”. Now I think I do - and I thought it was worth passing it forward. By the way, if you are already a Twitter user, can you share the top 3 benefits you have experienced from using it? In the meantime, I’m going to get cracking and let you know about my results.

Are You Sick Of Social Media Sites?

I’ll be the first to admit that I haven’t got the time or the inclination to join every social marketing site out there, and neither can you if you are going to make any money at your business.

Pick 3 sites (including one bookmarking site) and spend a few hours a week dedicated to building a presence in those three. How do you choose? Well you have to know your market and where they hang out. You will find a different crowd on LinkedIn vs. MySpace for the most part - so find out where you fit in.

Meanwhile - you are not alone. Others are tired of all the choices too:) Watch this funny music video about the impending social media site bubble over at Jack Humphrey’s site.

Attract Tons of Traffic With The Magic Bullet Article!

In Articology, I discuss in detail on how to write something I like to call "The Magic Bullet Article". These type of articles are traffic magnents! And while they cannot be the only kind of article that you write, you should write some of these regularly for your business. For instance, two HOT stories right now in the media are the 2008 election and the recent break-down of Britney Spears.

Find a way to incorporate one of those topics into an article, give it a great title, and make sure you tag it appropriately — and you should have a traffic winner! I know this works - because whenever I take a look at my stats for the articles I have written and submitted somewhere - I get great results for most of my articles - but I get almost 5x the traffic for my magic bullet articles. Why not write these all the time then? Well, then you would be more of a current events writer or feature writer and not really an expert in your niche. Plus, there’s a few more good reasons why I talk about in the program. Bottom line - find something current and hot to talk about. Find a way to attach it to your business, and write about it NOW!
