Have You Written A Testimonial Today?

June 26, 2008 By Lisa Angelettie Leave a Comment

I wrote a testimonial today for a marketing product which I bought and absolutely loved. Now while it would be nice to write here that I wrote the testimonial strictly because I was “moved to” — that wouldn’t be the entire truth 🙂

The entire truth is that when you write a testimonial, chances are that it, along with your URL address, and a photo of yourself will appear front and center on that product’s sales page. That is free exposure and typically free traffic back to your site. Buyers typically want to visit the sites of people who have bought what they are thinking about buying. I know that I absolutely do it!

And it has been working for my business as well. I immediately saw an increase in opt-ins after my testimonial was posted on a popular internet marketing website. I love when free traffic drops by!

So my point here is — have you written a testimonial for the last product or service you purchased today? If not, go do it. It’s a total win-win for everyone, and your business will love you for it.

*Why not get started today by writing a testimonial if you’ve enjoyed or learned anything from my sites or products. I’d love to hear from you:)

What Should I Blog About?

June 3, 2008 By Lisa Angelettie 3 Comments

It has become the biggest questions that new and intermediate (heck even advanced) bloggers ask themselves: “What the heck should I blog about?”

Many people run out of ideas after they have tackled the bulk of the “usual questions” in their niche. But you know what — while I could sit here and write you a Top 20 list of things to blog about — that’s just fodder for Digg 🙂 I know a strategy that will work for anyone in any niche without having to scour the web for idea generation tips.

Really – this is all you need to do:

1. Go to your Google search history (or whatever search engine you use to research and troubleshoot) and look at what you’ve searched on for the past day or so.

2. Create a quick list of those searches (appropriate for your market) in your favorite text editing software. I use textedit for mac.

3. Now write a blog post for each of those searches – making sure to use the exact words you used to search for your solution in your post’s title and/or within the post.

Why? Because just how you searched for your solutions — is the same way that other people just like you are going to search for their own answers.

*This works really well if you didn’t find too many results for your search– obviously.

Example: The other day I did a search for a problem I needed help with using a Mac software program called Sandvox. I did the search but didn’t find any immediate answers. I had to go to their support staff. But now I can write a blog post about that exact same problem, offer a solution, so that when others search on the same issue — they will find help and it will come from MY blog instead of Sandvox.

The reason why this is a great example is because the web is not yet saturated with  “answers” on this topic. That was clear by the fact that I couldn’t find an answer already written online. I had to go to support. So I have a great chance of getting traffic for my blog post that answers questions in the niche. You will look for topics like this — but even if there are already some answers for a question you are answering — you still can write your own answer and catch some of the organic traffic while also creating useful content for your community.

What this does for you is simple:

====> Gives you a lot of new topics to write about

====> You write about things that you actually have some direct experience with

====>You are writing useful information on things that people need help with

====>Positions you as an expert on the questions you are answering

Clickbank Offers Direct Deposit

March 24, 2008 By Lisa Angelettie 3 Comments

If you sell information or some sort of digital product on the web, chances are that one of the payment processors you use is Clickbank. While I use several, I really like Clickbank especially because of the built-in affiliate program. What I don’t like about them is having to wait two weeks for my checks to come in the mail. It seems that almost every other processor and even larger affiliate programs can put your money straight into your bank account or at least onto a debit card.

Well now Clickbank offers International Direct Deposit (XACH) straight into your bank account, but this service is only available in the following countries:
Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom. There is no fee for this service.

Hopefully – they will soon offer the same in the U.S. 🙂 Until then, if you really can’t stand waiting for your check, you may want to go with PayPal and you can get access to your funds instantly.

What Is Credibility Marketing?

December 20, 2007 By Lisa Angelettie Leave a Comment

A friend of mine asked me recently, while we were in Starbucks:) – “Just what the heck is credibility marketing anyway?” I think if I were to describe it honestly, it would be the purposeful acts and actions you take to build the credibility of yourself and your brand. Credibility builders are things that create “trust” between the client or customer and you.

Seals
You probably don’t even pay much attention to this, but when you go to a retail website to purchase something, you are subconsciously relieved when you see trusted seals such as the UPS logo, Fedex, Mastercard or Visa, BBB (Better Business Bureau), TRUSTe, HackerSafe etc. This is because these companies (among others) have spent zillions:) of dollars building their credibility – so much so that if you add their logo to your own site, you get to piggyback off of their trust factor. Just make sure you are adding a logo that you actually use and are affiliated with, because if you fake it and someone finds you out — that defeats the point of credibility right?

Associations
If you align yourself with the “right” associations and organizations in your field, that will go a long way in helping you build your credibility as a “trusted professional”. This will work in building credibility with colleagues as well as the public. Even if your customers don’t know what the organization actually does in respects to your profession, that’s okay – because once they see that you are even affiliated with some sort of larger entity, they tend to trust you more. Whether they recognize the organization or not. Of course ones that they know are better. Google your niche’s name plus the word association (ex. marketing + association) and see what results you come up with. While there is a fee to join most organizations, it’s worth it to piggyback off of the credibility they offer and they actually may have information, workshops, and conferences that you could use!

Information
What kind of content are you putting out in the world about you and your business. Do you sound like you know what you are talking about? Do you have a pulse on what your potential customers and clients want from your industry? Have you published a LOT of articles, white papers, reports, ebooks, etc. on topics in your field? It is key when you are looking to build credibility in your field that you appear knowledgeable and professional. Don’t put out crap! Put out good content and put it out often.

Checked Your Site for Outdated Links Lately?

November 21, 2007 By Lisa Angelettie 5 Comments

I have several websites and I am always in the midst of a new creative process. That’s my thing. But what can fall through the cracks are the little things (which are really huge!) such as making sure links to my articles, sites, special offers, products & services are all up to date and working properly.

Have you recently changed a payment processor? Affiliate software? Website hosts? Then you need to go double check the links back to these very important items.

1. Make sure that all the payment and referral links back to your products and services are working properly. I recently switched a product’s processing from clickbank to paypal, and forgot to check all the links on my sales page for that product. Once I fixed them – I received an order about 2 hours later! Imagine the potential income I missed for that careless brain fart!

2. Make sure that all the links you have out there to your websites are all correct and live. If recently changed your branding, and therefore switched urls etc. – just make sure that all traffic flows to your new page(s).

3. It’s soooo important to really try to choose one affiliate software option and stick with it. Because if you switch – it is very hard to convince all your current affiliates to then go and fix all the links on their sites as well. BUT if you do – make sure to check your site’s affiliate sign-up page for dead links and to email your affiliate list about updating their links etc. If you need a little help with setting up your affiliate program the right way, try the AffiliateDashboard tutorial. For an easy to implement affiliate system to use in your business, I like Affiliate Royale. If you are an affiliate of mine, you have already had a taste of this system.

4. Sometimes you may need to check the links for the images on your site. Especially the little ones that you don’t pay much attention to and/or that are hosted on another server. Many of these sites go out of business or make changes of their own – and then you have question marks in there place. It’s always a good idea to optimize your image text titles and descriptions for times like these. Use your keywords.

Lastly, if you don’t have the time to do this – outsource it. And no it doesn’t have to be this intricate outsourcing plan to someone 500 miles away! You can use a student or babysitter – heck even my 10 year old can spot outdated links:) Just get it done.

How To Start Your Own Advice Column

July 29, 2007 By Lisa Angelettie 24 Comments

I have recently received several email inquiries on how to start an advice column. Based on these various letters, I am assuming that these readers have read my advice column “Ask GirlShrink” and want to create a similar question and answer (Q&A) model for their own column(s).

So this is the deal. In order to create a regularly produced column, you need questions from people interested in your topic and your expertise. For this, you need to establish a few things first…

Your Expertise — What is it that you are knowledgeable about? What can you answer questions on? And how do you show others that you know what you are talking about? If you are giving advice on a very general topic (such as I do), then make sure you give your column a twist — some flavor:) Write in your own unique voice.

Your Visibility — There are two reasons why someone will follow your column – because your writing is exceptionally clever OR because you have made yourself visible to your target market. They have heard of you. They remember something you wrote before. Or just remember your name. You can of course begin to easily present yourself as the expert on your topic through a series of marketing tactics (one of my favorites is of course article marketing:), and establishing a website and subscriber list.

Regular Communication — Once you have a list and you begin communicating to them regularly through regular emails or your newsletter – they will begin trusting you and then asking for your help. This is a very important step or you will always be talking to “new” people and never start building a base of loyal fans. And what you want are loyal readers.

Can you begin writing your advice column without all this in place first? Well, you could based on what you “think” your clients need answers on. But that would be writing more like a work of fiction or a well-written FAQ page:) And the key to a really great advice column – one that gets syndicated – is to generate authentic content. I mean there are just some questions that people send in which I couldn’t make up if I tried! So authentic content over contrived wins every time in my book:)

Domain Name Age Matters

July 19, 2007 By Lisa Angelettie 9 Comments

Domain Name Age Matters

If you have a great idea for a website, an infoproduct, a membership site — whatever it is…it is a great idea to lock in the domain name you have in mind for it.

Even if you haven’t made a final decision about the name, or haven’t even thought about when you possibly get to developing your great idea — that’ s okay. Lock In The Name!

1. Domain names are getting scarce. Especially with the .com extension. So if you have an idea for one, lock it in and if you don’t use it, you can always try to sell it.

2. How long you have had a domain matters to the search engines, especially our favorite – Google:) So if you buy your domain this year and don’t use it until 2 years from now (something Mike Filisaime did with Butterfly Marketing), when you finally do develop it, Google will look at your site favorably (better pagerank) because it has already “existed” for two years. Google likes old sites.

3. Which leads me to my next point. If you can buy an OLD domain name for your new site or product and it doesn’t cost a ridiculous amount of money (these things can always be negotiated), buy it. Same prinicple. Better to have an old name than a new one.

4. Finally, you can invest in domain for under $10 bucks a year. You spend more than that on latte’s for the week! So, this is this type of business investment that I like…inexpensive:)

There are dozens of domain hosting companies on the web. And now most web hosting companies offer a free domain name when you sign up for a new account but these are my recommendations:

FIRST – I use hostgator for my webhosting. I use them because I can host unlimited sites with them AND because they have 24-hour telephone customer service which is fabulous. I also have a few names registered with them as well. But not all of them because I think it’s best to keep the two separate in case something happens with one company or the other.

SECOND – I use seodomainhosting.com for securing domain names.
