Reccommend Vs. Recommend

by Lisa Angelettie · 1 comment

Grammar Tip – Reccomend or Recommend

If you are like me, the article writing fool I am, I misspell this word almost once a week. Why, I don’t know. I should know better. So I just want to put it on the record, that you do not spell recommend with two C’s and two M’s or two C’s and one M.

Recommend is spelled with one C and two M’s.  R-E-C-O-M-M-E-N-D

The way I have to remember it now when I am writing or typing fast is to break the word in two parts. So basically writing the word as it was intended.

RE – Using the prefix re to do something once more

COMMEND – Present as suitable for acceptance

Smash them both together and it means to present something as suitable one more time. To recommend. If I add an additional C in the middle, it no longer spells commend, but ccommend. Which of course is not a word.

So think prefix + word. No additional letters.
