How To Create Facebook & Twitter Sharing Links (With HTML)

July 22, 2012 By Lisa Angelettie 13 Comments

There are a few plugins and programs for creating sharing buttons for Facebook and Twitter on your blog, but you are limited in placement. Sometimes it’s just better to learn a little old school html code, so that you can ask for the share anywhere on your site — especially in the middle of juicy article! I recently did this with a new page I was creating and found that it was rather simple to do. So as usual, I’m sharing:)

Adding A Twitter Sharing Link

1. First thing I want you to recognize is that you are creating an html link. So if you know anything about making a basic link, you know that you have to open it with <a href= and you have to close it with </a>. That goes for any link.

2. When creating your Twitter link, you’ll simply be adding some code that creates the share function and automatically opens Twitter, creates text for the tweet, the link url itself, and the sharing text. So using the example below, you will see that the code <a href=”http://twitter.com/share?text= . This code will be used for any Twitter share link. What comes after it is the text you see in the actual Tweet, separated by %20 which creates spaces in your tweet. Next comes the url of the page you’re sharing. Last is the text that will appear on your web page.

<a href=”http://twitter.com/share?text=How%20To%20Create%20A%20Twitter%20Share%20Link%20On%20Your%20
Website&url=http://www.lisaangelettieblog.com/facebook-twitter-sharing-links“>Share This on Twitter</a>

Adding A Facebook Sharing Link

Facebook is even simpler because you don’t have to add all that code (%20) to add spaces. All you need to do is to make sure you have the sharing code and the link (url) to the page that you’re sharing, and Facebook will automatically open up a share box. It’s pretty cool.

How To Automatically Retweet Your Favorite Twitter Follower’s Tweets In 60 Seconds (or less!)

April 15, 2012 By Lisa Angelettie 6 Comments

“Attract New Strategic Alliances & Thank Your Existing Parnters When You Retweet Their Content To Your Community. Best thing is — it’s all on autopilot. Doesn’t look spammy. And you can accomplish it all in 60 seconds or less:)”

It’s really more important than ever to get social media “right”. One of the ways that you can use social media to your advantage, is to use it to build an inner circle of friends a.k.a. circle of influence who support you and your business and vice-versa.

This isn’t the average social media user we’re talking about. This is typically someone who you have identified as having a strong social media presence, someone who loves what you do and wants to genuinely support you on your journey, and someone who you feel the same about.

Once you’ve identified these people (and this is an going activity), there are going to be some folks who always have something good to share on Twitter and you’ll want to “retweet” that type of stuff because you like their content AND it will help strengthen your alliance with them. When they see that you are supporting them, they will more than likely do the same for you.

For those people ONLY, I like to set up the automatic retweet feature. Now don’t worry, you don’t have to retweet everything that they post, because that would be annoying and spammy looking. But with this quick trick I’m going to show you, you can be very specific about what you retweet from each person who choose to do this for. I’ve chosen to shoot a short video tutorial to show you how I set this up.

Resources:
1. Obviously you will need your own Twitter account
2. You need the Twitter handles of the people you want to retweet
3. The tool that I use to set all this up is TweetAdder.

While I do love free resources like Hootsuite, Tweetadder is a paid but very affordable social media tool that works on both PCs and Macs which I absolutely love. I’ve been using them for at least a year, I’m pretty sure longer though. I haven’t found a free tool that will allow me to do what I’m showing you today, and Tweetadder keeps the software updated regularly and there have been no issues between them and Twitter (like API stuff).

Watch the quick 5 minute tutorial below and set up your retweets in seconds!

Only The Cool Kids Need Apply — Are You One?

The Big Shift

In a recent teleclass that I led on The 5 Biggest Shifts That Entrepreneurs Must Make When Writing Articles That Attract Clients, I talked a bit about the dramatic SHIFT that is happening on the web right now. Search engines like Google are now taking a very close look at whether or not your content is being shared via social media and ranking your content based on those factors. This shift will significantly shape your online reputation.

Uh-Oh Is This High School Again?

Okay, so this sounds a little bit like a popularity contest right? Well sort of. The more folks who share, like, retweet, and comment on your content the more IMPORTANT that Google thinks you are. So essentially it comes down to the more people who like you — the better you will do in the search engines, BUT there’s one great advantage you have…

You Have MAJOR Control Over Becoming A Cool Kid

Unlike actual high school, you don’t have to depend on an arbitrary hierarchy  to decide whether your content fares well in the search engines. YOU are on the same playing field as all of your competitors and you are probably 2 steps ahead of all the “Big Boys” in your niche, because everyday people make the decisions on whether to share, retweet, and like content.

If your content is good, if it’s inspiring, if it’s compelling, if it’s entertaining — it will be shared, regardless of WHO you are. When Google sees this, they ASSUME that you are important and rank your content accordingly.

Okay Lisa – So How Important Is This?

This shift towards more importance being paid on social media influence is critical if you want to remain relevant — at least in the search engines. If you are not on social media or created an account a year ago and haven’t been active, it’s time to get on the grid.

If you must choose just one to start with, I’d go with Facebook because it is the largest social media network and it has undergone tremendous growth over the years and continues to do so. If you are a rapid implementer. then I’d sign up with the power 3: Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

If you’re active in social media and want to check just how well you are doing in social media (your social media influence), then a great place to check is: Klout.com. *I have a little disclaimer here though. Don’t get real crazy over your numbers in Klout. Use your Klout number as a frame of reference for how you’re doing in social media and what you need to work on. Then leave it alone.

This Still Sounds Like An Uphill Battle

No, it really isn’t. Sure, there are always going to be leaders who were already powerhouses offline like Oprah and will do great in social media — but when it comes to shining in your niche — social media really does level the playing field. The #1 key is to make sure that you are sharing kick-a@#! content. Get that right and everything else will fall into place. I recommend that you get started by building a strong foundation with articles.

Okay, Now You…

First, if you found value in this article, I’d appreciate it if you tweet or share it with your community or comment on it. Pay it forward please:)

Now for my question of the day: Do you think it’s a good idea for search engines to use social media as a factor for ranking content? Do you believe it puts you at an advantage or disadvantage?

Social Media Metrics: Reality Check!

January 5, 2012 By Lisa Angelettie 1 Comment

How Are You Doing In Social Media Circles — REALLY?

It’s been an increasingly significant way for search engines like Google to measure the “importance” and “relevance” of your website and your brand. What is it? Your social media reach.

When making a decision about how to rank your content in the search engines, companies like Google are taking in account the reach of your brand in social media circles. These sites may include: Facebook, Twitter, Google+, StumbleUpon, etc.

A question you may want to ask yourself is: Has your blog accumulated Tweets, Facebook Shares, Google +1s or Stumbles? This is a great indicator of how your site has been promoted by you and shared by others. Very important for the long-term success of any website in today’s marketplace.

Hey it’s a tough concept for many of us solo professionals. I mean who has the time to spend on social media when we have businesses to run? But like it or not, the reality is that social media is here to stay and if we “work it” it will work just as hard for us in return.

A great way to check out your social media reach is to go to a site such as: SocialMention.com, plug in your site’s url and take a look at how you score.

social mention

Scoring will include factors such as strength (a calculation based on how often you’re mentioned in social media), sentiment (ratio of mentions that are positive to negative), passion is (likelihood that folks talking about your brand will probably continue to do so), and reach is the measure of your range of influence (# of authors divided by mentions).

While this is the not the end all, be all of influence — a look into this site can give you a picture of how you’re doing in social media and what you can do better.

It can also help you identify social media heavyweights in your niche that would be a good idea to connect with. So don’t be scared! Go get your free social media analysis and feel free to share your results:)

How To Add Facebook & Twitter Stream To Google+ Plus

November 13, 2011 By Lisa Angelettie Leave a Comment

Learn How To Add Facebook & Twitter Stream To Google+ Plus In 60 Seconds!

Here’s a quick Social Media Content Nugget for you to implement this week…

I’ve been a slow adopter, but I am starting to see the benefits of really using Google+ for business. First of all there are totally different users and friends that I have met on Google+ than I have on any of my other social networks. For some social butterflies – this is less than appealing.

But for REAL business owners like you and myself – this is great. A totally different group of folks are attracted to Google+ and with 40 million members and rising – let’s just say that there must be a lot of ’em! So this week I’d love for you to spend a little time over on your Google+ page. Spruce up your profile. Add a few photos. Get into a few circles.

Now after you’ve done that, it’s time to ramp things up a bit. One of the great things about social media is that the big daddy’s in the social media market are really starting to work together.  Same goes for Google+. Or at least there are 3rd party developers out there making sure they work together:) So you can now add both your Facebook and Twitter stream to your Google+ which will only make for a more engaging stream by you.

Add Your Facebook Updates To Google+

Go to http://goo.gl/Xw38s, click “Get Google+Facebook” to install the plugin/extension and then you’ll see that next to the homepage button will appear also a facebook button.

Add Your Twitter Stream To Google+

Go to http://goo.gl/akULt and install the “Get Google+Tweet” plugin/extension the same way. Same thing will happen: next to the homepage button you’ll get another one for the twitter stream.

As you see, now there is a Twitter and Facebook button added to your homepage that you can click to read those streams.

add facebook and twitter to google plus

By the way: This is not supported by Safari yet.

Have You Done Your Social Media Research?

September 20, 2011 By Lisa Angelettie 2 Comments

Have You Done Your Social Media Research?

Movie rental company Netflix raised a lot of ruckus this year when they raised their monthly feels by 60% (wow!) and as a result over a million subscribers dropped the service. Now they’ve decided to separate their online video streaming from their by-mail service and are still calling the online service Netflix and the by-mail service Qwikster. So this is the SECOND flub they made…

They did not do their social media research, because if they had, they would have realized that someone has already taken the name @Qwikster on Twitter and he’s probably not going to give it up without some sort of cash payment.

social media researchHow on earth do you decide to develop a new brand and not do your social media research in this day and age?

Learn your lesson from Netflix’s error, and make sure you aren’t totally sold on your new business name until you’ve done domain address, Twitter, and Facebook research.

Twitter Over Capacity

November 6, 2010 By Lisa Angelettie 3 Comments

Twitter Over Capacity – UGH!

Twitter Over Capacity

I have nothing prophetic to write today. Just wanted to say that sometimes you have to know when it’s time to take a break. I wanted to let my peeps know that I just published an article on my site, but couldn’t, because once again Twitter was over capacity. Twitter was damn busy!

That must mean that something important is going on right? Or it could simply mean that it’s time to go play Twister with my kids:)

Twitter Marketing Tip: Twitter Testimonials

twitter testimonials

I have to admit that I was a little slow on the whole social media bandwagon. So I didn’t capture a lot of my great Twitter “mentions” or testimonials when they came up in my Twitter stream. Now I can’t find the suckers! But that’s okay, for the future, I’ve found this really cool widget tool that will capture, manage, and display all of my Twitter testimonials automatically.

All you have to do is “favorite” those Twitter testimonials and they will come up in this handy little Twitter testimonial widget that you can place on your blog, site, forum, etc. It’s really simple and it takes literally 60 seconds to set up.
