I was searching through a magazine website and saw ABC Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts on the cover of a Women & Cancer Magazine. While unfortunate, it is pretty clear that there is a pretty big audience of women who have survived cancer, have been recently diagnosed with cancer, or have loved ones who are going through a cancer diagnosis. The existence of this print publication is proof of that. No one will incur the cost of publishing a magazine without knowing that there is audience for it.
That’s why if you are in a niche that can serve this very special community of women, then right now is a great time to write about breast cancer for these readers. October is breast cancer awareness month and major media outlets will cover it. Therefore if you write content on the topic, you have a good chance of being used as a resource or reference for a reporter.
It’s also a good idea to write content for family members of breast cancer survivors, because they are often overlooked and forgotten about.
We often mention ovarian cancer when we talk about breast cancer because of the tendency for some women to have genetic markers that predict that if they suffer from breast cancer that there is a chance they will get ovarian cancer. So you can write about these two cancers in tandem.
If you have read tons of basic information on breast cancer, breast cancer prevention, and breast cancer treatment — chances are you don’t write any more of the same. Especially if that’s not your expertise. That’s why it may be a good idea to give a more personal twist to your articles.
