October Article Ideas

September 30, 2012 By Lisa Angelettie 3 Comments

A great way to get a surge of traffic to your site on a regular basis is to write theme or holiday related articles. Especially if you write them in a way that they will bring you traffic EVERY month for that specific holiday or theme. So do not write anything really specific to the “year” that you wrote them. Just the month. Then watch the traffic roll in every month like clockwork.

October article ideas

Here Are Some Article Ideas For You For Monthly October Search Engine Traffic:

Adopt a Shelter Dog Month

I’ve noticed a lot of television commercials around this promotion lately. It is becoming a bigger monthly promotion, so it would probably be a great idea to write content around this if you can tie it into your business some way.Talk about shelter dog you adopted. Share tips and strategies for bringing home a shelter dog.

American Pharmacist Month

Very important job and great tie in for any health related niche.

Apple Jack Month

The cereal, the drink? Uh, I’m not sure about this one.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This is a big one and you’ll see a lot of activity around this topic.

Clergy Appreciation Month

Great topic for any and all Christian, Catholic or other religious themed websites.

Computer Learning Month

Anyone could probably tie this topic in with their business. We’re all online educators in a way.

Cookie Month

Isn’t it every month? (Tee-hee!)

Domestic Violence Awareness Month

A very important topic that does well with first person accounts, prevention, and how to escape strategies.

Eat Country Ham Month

I don’t eat ham, but I’m sure a lot of people do:)

International Drum Month

Great for music sites, etc.

Lupus Awareness Month

This doesn’t get the attention that say MS gets, but it’s just as serious and prevalent of an autoimmune disease. If this is your niche — get busy writing content around it. There isn’t enough.

National Diabetes Month

Another big topic. Give it a spin unique to your niche and you’ll do great in the search engines.

National Pizza Month

Recipes, health pizza versions, unique pizza toppings, how to make at home, the ideas are endless!

National Vegetarian Month

I went to the library to check out the book “Eat To Live” and I was 86th on the list! People are looking for solutions to long term health and longevity and for many that is a closer look at Vegetarianism. Show people how to convert easily and you’ll win in this niche.

National Popcorn Popping Month

Popcorn flavors. Popcorn recipes. Popcorn crafts.

Sarcastic Month

Are you serious? (LOL)

Seafood Month

Restaurant listings, seafood recipes, how seafood is caught, farm raised vs wild caught, etc.

Halloween

Obviously, you can write all Halloween and fall festive related articles as well. Here are some past articles I’ve written to help marketers write effective articles (and profit from them) on Halloween:

Are You Writing Articles That Attract Your Ideal Clients?

January 18, 2012 By Lisa Angelettie 3 Comments

About two years ago, I worked with a client who wanted help with positioning himself as a go-to authority in his industry. He initially found me through an article I had written somewhere (as most of my clients do) and wanted me to basically perform miracles for him. Okay — I’m a miracle worker sometimes (dusting off my shoulders:), so I took on the challenge.

client attracting articles

My first job was to take a look at his business and one of the first things that I took inventory of was the types of content he had created and in particular if he was creating content that resonated with his ideal clients. He wasn’t, and at first, he didn’t get it. He would occasionally write articles and publish them, but never with any purpose or rather enough purpose. Never strategically. He really just wrote what he thought was important for his ideal clients to know, titled them what he wanted,  and waited for them to come. They didn’t come.

And that’s my point here.

If you are going to spend your valuable time creating content such as articles, wouldn’t you like to make sure that they are working hard for you, and pulling more of your ideal clients towards you? Of course you do!

So here are a few points you should consider when sitting down to write an article this week. Think about your ideal client during this entire exercise – not yourself:

1. What is the point of this article? Is it to entertain your ideal clients? Am I solving a huge challenge for them?

2. Did I write this in a way that my ideal clients can understand and relate to? Am I using language that they use or am I talking above their heads or to the lowest common denominator.

3. Have previous clients asked you about this topic? That’s always a good indication that you will attract more ideal clients with content designed around the same topic.

4. Are you publishing the articles places where your ideal clients visit? Why are you guest posting at a home business site if your ideal clients are frustrated  and burned out CEO’s?

The key to filling your business with not just clients, but clients that you LOVE working with, is to ensure that you know who those ideal clients really are and that you create content that they are looking for. I’ll be talking more about how to create client attracting content like this in my upcoming teleclass, “The 5 Biggest Shifts You Must Make When Writing, Publishing & Marketing Articles That Attract Clients!” .  Register right now!

Article Spinning Software Finally Evolves!

September 14, 2011 By Lisa Angelettie 7 Comments

Article Spinning Software Finally Evolves!

As someone that teaches entrepreneurs how to write and publish their own compelling content, I have to make it mybest spinner business to try every service and software product on the market, and during my quest I have never found a great article spinning software.

At the end of the day, they ALL produced articles that sounded unnatural, and that ruined my marketing message and my professional image. OR the rewriting process literally took me over an hour to complete and in the same time I could have rewritten the article myself. I never want unintelligible junk on the web with my name attached and I don’t want my virtual assistant or myself to spend hours out of our day trying to spin and submit one stinking article. Not smart.

So imagine my surprise when a nice guy named Aaron pleasantly contacted me from Spin Rewriter to let me know about his new article spinning software. Okay, so in the back of my mind, I totally believed that this software would just be another one of those programs or services that I would never use — but I was wrong.

There is a detailed list of benefits that makes this software phenomenal which I will list in a minute, but the bottom line if you are a bottom line type of person is that this software does what ALL the others can’t.

1. It will take your article and create many unique versions that are grammatically correct and still sound like you wrote them.

2. You will have dozens or even hundreds of articles for submission to directories, blog networks, 3rd party sites, etc. that you can comfortably submit knowing that they won’t get kicked back for duplicate content issues or grammatical & sentence structure problems.

3. You can do all of this literally with ONE click. I spun one of my articles into hundreds of highly unique (89%) articles in less than five minutes. Seriously

Why You Should Use Spin Rewriter Article Spinner(according to them):

article spinning software

Great benefits right? But again if I’m going to bottom line it here, being able to create hundreds of unique pages across the web will:

1. Create more backlinks to your site

2. Makes your site more important to search engine eyes

3. Then Google will rank your site higher in the search engine results

4. Which means you get more traffic

5. Which means you’ll build a bigger list and generate more income

Is that motivation enough? It was for me:) FINALLY — I’m all in!

Should You Write Article Titles For Readers or Google?

April 26, 2011 By Lisa Angelettie 13 Comments

Should You Write Article Titles For Readers or Google?

In the SEO (search engine optimization) world, there has always been a discussion about whether site owners, bloggers, retail site owners, etc. should write content and titles that target their community of existing readers or if you should write articles and article titles that gets good ranking in Google? That debate is still ongoing, but as you make the decision for your own content, I want you to keep a few things in mind:

New Kid On The Block – Writing Article Titles For Google
If you are new to the online marketing world then chances are that you do not have a large existing community of followers of your content. There are always exceptions to this rule, but the average newbie does not and so it probably is not in your best interest to write content or at least titles for that content that is not keyword rich. Keyword rich titles are very attractive to search engines. They love ’em!  In other words, I’m suggesting you write article titles for Google.

What this means for you is that when people search for information that includes the keywords that you are targeting in your title, your content will show up in a search engine search. This is very important to the new marketer because you want to begin to gain traction in the search engines. You want Google’s search engine spiders to start crawling your site and then showing your pages in relevant searches. This is how you will begin to obtain organic, natural, traffic to your site.

Social Butterfly – Writing Article Titles For Readers
If you have been on the web for a while and have built a following of devoted fans, perhaps to your site (they leave a lot of comments) or your Facebook fan page, Twitter page, etc., then you have a decision to make. If the word spreads about you socially on the web (someone refers your articles, forwards your articles, tweets your latest article) then you may want to write article titles that appeal especially to those readers. And often titles that appeal to readers are not especially keyword rich. This varies among niches, some markets having to be a lot more “clever” with their content in order to stand out among the clutter – but I would say that most times these titles are clever or cute.

Now the flip side to this theory is that Google will show Tweets in real-time that are keyword specific. For example, if a new Dancing With The Stars is showing and you tweet the title of the show while it is showing on live TV, Google will show you relevant tweets about the show very high on the page (above the fold). The only tweets that show though are the ones that contain the keywords. This makes a case for using keywords socially on the web as well.

Same goes for Facebook fan pages. When you are able to name your Facebook Fan Page with a customized url – using keyword terms is a good idea. I used one of my phrases for my Facebook fan page, and it ranks #3 for that term. Of course pages on my site, rank for that same term in the #1 and #2 position and this is out of over 9 million results for that term!

article marketing income

So the bottom line here is that you can do a little of both if you are building your business socially via a lot of conversation. Write what appeals to your readers first and sprinkle keyword terms in here and there when you can.

Article Marketing All-Star – Writing Article Titles For Google
If you use article marketing as part of your marketing strategy, then here’s my recommendation for you. There are hundreds, maybe even thousands of articles in your niche talking about similar to identical topics. The only way to truly cut through that clutter is to write really good information (no junk) and to write relevant article titles. Ones that people will actually type when conducting a Google search. Those are the two most important factors for getting read among the sea of competitors you have out there.

Guest Post Guys and Gals – Writing Article Titles For Google
When I write a guest post for another blogger, one of the things that they ALL have asked me for was seo information. They wanted a good article title, keywords for tags, and a kick-butt summary. This is because they want their articles to be found and indexed HIGH in the search engines; and you want this too! While you also want to reach that blogger’s existing readership, you also want to always look for opportunities to attract new readers and writing a keyword rich title for your guest posts is a great way to accomplish this.

* Hot Writing Tip For Writing Balanced Article Titles
Honestly, as you practice writing more and more – you will find a balance between writing clever titles and keyword rich titles. Many of the great writers and bloggers on the web have figured this whole strategy out. It’s the best of both words. One of the short cuts you can try is to include both sides in a two-part article title.

Part 1 – will have your keyword phrase. No longer than 4 words. Very specific. Example: Raw Dog Food Diet

Part 2 – will appeal to your readers interests. Example: Is Raw Really Right For Fido?

Complete title will read: Raw Dog Food Diet: Is Raw Really Right For Fido?

The first few words of the title will appeal to the search engines and hopefully rank pretty well for that keyword term. The second part is what will help draw readers into reading the rest of your article. Both together are a content marketer’s perfect marriage.

#1 Google Penalty To Avoid

April 21, 2011 By Lisa Angelettie 1 Comment

#1 Google Penalty To Avoid

There are a few experts out there who would like to scare you to death about depending on Google for search engine traffic to your site. While I don’t recommend depending on only one marketing strategy, I do highly recommend implementing good search engine optimization practices to maximize all the real, organic traffic you can attract to your site. Why?

1. It’s free and that’s always great.

2. It’s typically a highly qualified prospect who finds you via a Google search.

3. It’s simple to implement.

So while I think I have covered a lot of fabulous things about grabbing Google traffic as well as the recent Google algorithm updates that have changed the game for some site owners, I thought it was important to give you another side of the coin. Some of the pitfalls (Google penalties) that you can fall into when writing content for the search engines and how to avoid them.

While I could talk about this topic for days, I selected one major Google penalty that you want to avoid for today’s article, because I see it happening so much. Especially by new marketers or frustrated solopreneurs.

Aggressive Link Building

It is no secret that in today’s society we all are looking for a way to do things faster, better, easier, quicker, etc. This is no different with entrepreneurs on the web. Even with all the lightening fast progress that we’ve seen on the web, people still want faster. Even with the great amounts of money you can make online with minimal effort — people still want to make more money by doing less.

In that spirit, a lot of entrepreneurs are trying to artificially build up the ranking and importance of their sites by acquiring links a.k.a. back links to their sites with lightening speed. Unfortunately, this is probably the #1 way for a site owner to suffer a Google penalty and see your site fall in the oh-so-awful Google sandbox. Why? Well, understand the logic…

Google started assessing a site’s importance based on the number of backlinks it had and the quality of those backlinks years ago. Originally the intent made sense, because if you owned a site which was accruing a regular amount of inbound links from reputable sites – it is thought that your site hosted relevant content to the niche you are ranking in. Thus making you relevant and important as well.

Of course Google didn’t count on the fact that marketers were going to figure out a way to put that process on steroids and get hundreds of links to a brand new website in one day, for multiple days! When they saw that happening, they realized that that wasn’t natural inbound linking. And of course Google was not going to reward sites that did this by giving them great ranking – so they began penalizing sites that did this type of unnatural link building and they still do this to this day.

So please be aware of this major link building blunder as you seek inbound links to your site. Do not build links to your site aggressively. If you did nothing and just allow other sites to find your content and link to you naturally there is absolutely no way you will ever have to worry about this penalty. BUT the sit back and wait method is not something I necessarily recommend, especially for folks looking to see immediate results. So in that case, do not actively and aggressively build links to your site by:

1. Joining a large link farm. The quantity and quality of links from this type of source is dubious and Google will penalize you for it.

2. Buying large amounts of links. Google does not want you to buy any links, but if you do, know that you should buy relevant ones and a few at a time.

3. Publishing hundreds of articles at one time. Many people do this because they’ve bought some sort of submission software as a shortcut, but it’s important that you know that you should not publish hundreds of articles at one time. You should trickle the publishing dates so that you do not have too many new links pointing to your site at one time.

In fact, I recommend that you build new links to your site at a rate of 10-15% or less than your existing link totals per month. For example, if you have a site with 100 current links, that means you can safely build in another 10-20 links without drawing any undue notice. Of course, the larger your site, the more links you can safely build on a monthly basis.

Did Google Give Article Marketing A Slap?

April 6, 2011 By Lisa Angelettie 7 Comments

Did Google Give Article Marketing A Slap Right In The Face?

If you have been thinking about using article marketing for some time but weren’t sure about it, because of the rumblings on the web about Google’s latest algorithm shuffle, then I have a few things to say to clear up any confusion…

Google Slap

First – Let’s Be Clear About What Article Marketing Is These Days.
As all things on the web, article marketing can move and bend and change shape as things shift on the web. It is no longer just a way to take an article and publish it to as many sites (junk or not) as you can. In fact, it is that very act that has a lot of site owners lower in the rankings and crying the blues — because the same articles were published to so many low quality directories and blogs. Quantity over quality is no longer effective article marketing. This is NOT how I get my oodles of #1 spots on the web, and this is not what I teach to nice folks like you. Look at what happened to poor JCPenny!

Second – Article Marketing Is Not Dead  – It’s Just Going Through A Metamorphosis!
Google periodically shakes things up on their end to get rid of some of the dead weight and the site owners that were “getting over”. This is nothing new and nothing to panic about. The reality about article writing is that it will always be relevant because content is the foundation of the internet. This is not about whether to use article marketing, but rather this is more about writing “better” articles and giving a damn about where they end up.

Third – Can You Please Just Step Up?
So how can you become Google compliant? Well the first step, is that you simply need to step up and write better! Stop believing all those hyped up “lazy marketer” ads. If you want a real, thriving business, then stop writing junk that you’ve thrown together in two seconds. Quit looking for a million shortcuts to create articles and other content. Get real in your business and start writing from the heart. That will be a great start to getting your content noticed, read, and virally shared with others.

Fourth – Get Snobby!
The next step is to make sure that you are being selective about where you publish your content. That is imperative. It use to be that you could publish your articles anywhere and get the benefit of a backlink. That has changed. Not Google notices what kind of sites are pointing back to you. Are they high quality? Are they even human updated? Or are they automated junk or scraper sites?

No now you have to be basically a snob and only publish to high quality, relevant, sites. This includes directories, other websites and blogs, and strong social media sites like Facebook and LinkedIn.

Fifth – Spread The Wealth
Don’t just limit your article marketing to article directories. Share your work with high quality and niche focused third party bloggers and site owners. While the industry doesn’t call this article marketing, but guest blogging or guest posting, let’s be real about this. It’s all marketing:)

Also, don’t forget to add articles to your own site or blog. This is going to become much more relevant as the years go on. Get in the habit of doing this now. You want to create a direct path from a Google search to your site and this is how you accomplish that.

Conclusion
Let me put it this way, my overall rankings improved with the latest Google shake up. My keywords either shot up to #1 or fluctuated in the top 5 results. The reason for this is that I was a snob who stepped up long before Google forced my hand. Trust me when I say that there are many tricks of the trade to staying in favor with the web’s largest search engine and I’d love to share them all with you, but this just isn’t the platform for all I want to say.

In fact, I am planning a big ole’ Google Love event which I will be inviting you to very soon. Look out for that to come shortly. In the meantime, do you have any questions about the latest Google algorithm updates that you want to ask? Leave them in the comment section below and I’ll get right back to you.

How To Get #1 Ranking In Google

February 28, 2011 By Lisa Angelettie 4 Comments

How To Get #1 Ranking In Google

A few months ago there was another search engine shake up by Google. You may have noticed. Sites that use to rank #1 are no longer there. Your site may have changed ranking – for the better or for the worse. Either way, I’m going to explain why it may have changed and what you can do to make sure that you rank #1 for many if not all of your keyword terms and/or your website in the future.

As the competition for keywords stiffens and website owners have made tweaks to their sites based on what it appeared search engines favored before, now engines like Google have made a few alorithim changes that emphasize something pretty old school SEO – your domain name.

For example, for a while I ranked #1 for one of my keyword term: Article Marketing Tips. After the changes at Google, I dropped to number #2. After some investigation on my part based on the competitor’s pagerank, content relevancy, age, backlinks, freshness, etc. I recognized that this site stepped up to the #1 spot because they had one thing that I did not have and that was the keyword term specifically in their domain name.

article marketing tips

Having your keyword term in your url is more important than ever now. This was just one of thousands of examples of sites that had a position change due to keyword relevancy in the main url. So here is what I suggest:

1. If you are just starting out and haven’t begun to set up your site, etc., then you are in a great position. Do the keyword  research necessary to figure out what your primary target keyword term should be and secure a SEO friendly domain name for that term.

2. If you are already established and have no intentions of changing your main url because of the hassle it may bring about for your or because of your business branding (that’s my excuse:)– then there is always the strategy of securing keyword rich domain names as landing pages, squeeze pages, product sales pages, etc.

Luckily for me, #2 spot isn’t so bad. I still get a great deal of traffic for this term, but I have been at this for years, and I work hard on optimizing all of my content including my site for my terms.

If you are new to the web, the domain url you select could truly mean visibility vs. obscurity for your site, so take the time and choose wisely. Do your homework. And if I were you, I’d secure as many as I could. The .com names are being snatched while you are reading this article. At the prices of domain names now (9 or 10 bucks), there is no excuse to lock in your preferred terms with the .com, .net, or .org extensions.

Article Marketing: What Do I Do First?

February 15, 2011 By Lisa Angelettie 4 Comments

Article Marketing: What Do I Do First?

Over a series of articles, I’m going to briefly discuss the components of becoming a successful ePublisher and what you should do first to get on the road towards that success. In today’s article I’m going to talk about one of the easiest facets of ePublishing and that’s article marketing. While I cover a lot of things on article marketing on this site, I think one of the most common questions that beginners will still continue to ask me is “What do I do first?” And I’ve really recently discovered that this is the one question that has stopped a lot of entrepreneurs and marketers from moving forward with their article marketing. They just don’t know where to begin.

So let’s talk about effective article marketing…

The key to making article marketing work for you is to write about things that your readers are interested in and that is useful AND to be consistent about it. If you write about only what you think your readers are interested in, chances are your article marketing will not be effective. If you do write something that your readers love BUT you only write on topics like that when the mood strikes you or one and done — then your article marketing efforts will do little for you.

For some reason, a few bad apples have spread an internet marketing tale, and that tale is that you can retire rich in 30 days when you do whatever it is that they are promoting. That’s simply not true. You will not make a million dollars on the web by not meeting the needs of your target marketing and by not performing some sort of marketing action on a consistent basis. You must.

That’s why I balk when people complain about how many articles they will have to write, the time it will take, etc. The fact of the matter is that generating income takes work. It always has and it always will. Any consistent, targeted effort will provide desired results – and the #1 effort I chose to make on a regular basis is writing articles.

1. Article marketing is easy.

2. Article marketing builds credibility.

3. Article marketing builds links.

4. Articles can be repurposed into many income streams.

5. Article marketing is tested, proven, and works for as long as the article is relevant.

So now that I’ve given you a decent dose of reality soup, I’m sure you’re asking to hear the point of this article – What Do I Do First?

The first thing that any new article marketer should do is make the commitment to write and write consistently. If you are going in this thinking you are going to write 5 articles and then wait for the money to roll in, you are not committed to article marketing.

Next, you should then do the research you need to identify 7 points of interest and/or sources of frustration for your market. What do they need help with? What do they want to learn?

You now have your first seven articles. You first short report. Your first seven video articles. Your first seven podcast episodes. Your first seven feature articles for your ezine.

You are ready to ROCK!
