I’m going to talk about it more in the future, but twitter is an absolutely essential tool these days for promoting the heck out of your articles. So from time to time I will be posting information on new tools and resources that will help enhance the whole article tweeting experience.

Go add your twitter account to this directory under the main keywords or tags of your business/blog.
Do you own a Mac?

I am excited today because I just discovered that I won a cool link building contest over at Jack Humphrey’s Friday Traffic Report. I win a full year ($1164 value) of his new Blog Success program, which will launch December 2nd, which I am amped about because his social marketing strategies really helped me take my business to the next level, and I’m looking forward to even taking it a step or two further in 2009. But let me tell you a little bit about what I learned while participating in this contest…
1. I learned that if I REALLY want something, I can go get it. And I did truly wanted to win this contest.
2. I learned that Jack created a really easy and pain-free way to get a lot of links back to your site. Everyone likes a contest, and it’s something that I could easily do.
3. I learned that is was more important that the participants link deeply into his site and not just to his home page, because when we did we were rewarded with more entries into the contest.
4. I learned that as I link to other good content – it does more for my authority and ranking as well.
So basically I’m saying — that I learned a lot of good stuff and I’ll be using those same concepts and running a few of my own contests over here. So look out for my first contest — coming soon!
I must admit that I have a fascination with search engine optimization tactics. I started using them back in ’03 when I first started on the web as merely a hobby and fell in love with it. I guess because I saw real results for my site without having to pay a dime! Who doesn’t love free?
But a lot of things have changed since I first started on the web – and the old way of promoting content like articles have dramatically changed. No longer should we be trying to write as much content as we can and submit it to every directory that will accept us. And if you’re still doing that you may want to seriously consider taking a look at my upcoming article marketing course:) But having said that – a more Web 2.0 and fresh approach to getting your content out there to as many fresh eyes as possible WHILE building authoritative links back to your website is by creating your own Article Branding Kit™. So what is it?
Basically you write three to five original articles which really embodies what problems your company is in the business of solving AND post the link to those articles (which should be hosted on your own website) on all of the social media networks that you are a member of such as: facebook, myspace, etc. Any social media site which allows you to have a profile page is a good candidate. Make sure to position your ABK as a special offer or a sneak peak to make it more enticing. Now you’ve created a path of traffic back to your site while also creating a link to your site from a very authoritative website with good ranking (which is good for your site too).
*Take note that this is different from a freebie you are offering for signing up for your newsletter etc. These articles should be offered to the site visitor without obligation – as they are functioning as your extended business card. An extension of your brand.

Want to start off the another year of your business with a bang? Then get working on the things that will make your site famous.
1. Build a blog. The best thing that I ever did for my flagship site (GirlShrink) was to build a blog (AskGirlShrink) for it. The blog funnels new and fresh traffic to the site, because of the regularly added content. While blogs were optional a few year ago – I would say they are mandatory now.

2. Write Articles. Buy any internet marketing guru’s product promising you a bigger list or more traffic and they will all have writing articles or creating content as one of the most important things you can do generate qualified traffic to your site.

3. Create a product. While many of you may be building sites and blogs in order to promote affiliate products, think about putting that same amount of energy into creating and promoting your own product where you get to keep 100% of the profits! While also establishing yourself as an expert at whatever it is you do.

4. Get Networking. In it’s infancy, networking sites were for teenagers and others starting a new band! Now, entrepreneurs have tons of social networking tools and sites at their fingertips that there is no exuse for no one to have ever heard of you. You just need to hit the right sites for your niche – and you could really hit a goldmine of free traffic! Start with sites like MySpace, Facebook, and Yahoo’s Mash. And get started promoting your blog articles with tools such as technorati, digg, stumbleupon, and newsvine.
